At Bites of Art, we believe food should be as beautiful as it is delicious—an experience that delights the senses and tells a story.

That story begins in my childhood kitchen, where I first fell in love with cooking alongside my mom. Despite growing up without a lot,  my mom had a gift for turning simple ingredients into something memorable. Her creativity, warmth, and resourcefulness left a lasting impression on me and continue to inspire everything I create today. To me, food is love—a way to connect, nourish, and celebrate the people around us.

I have so many kitchen memories growing up. The first cake was for my parent’s anniversary. My brother Troy and I in the kitchen working to perfect it. I still laugh thinking about it. We forgot to prep the pan so when it cooled it broke in half. We couldn’t agree on icing color so it turned out a weird combination of purple, blue, green and black. The cake was “glued” together with that frosting and by the time we were done it looked like the frosting was made by a raccoon with a vendetta and a color wheel.

We were always experimenting … and fighting as siblings do. There was the time we decided to make lollipops. Finally got that pot cleaned right before mom came home. Then there was the green jello fiasco. It didn’t set up. Did I mention we were around 10 and 12? So, again, in our disagreement over said jello it resulted in a bit of a literal food fight. We did clean the kitchen and then not soon after mom happened to look up and what did she see? I TEENY TINY spot of green … on the ceiling. We had a fun time explaining that one. But mom, by this time, had gone back to work. Troy and I were left to play in the kitchen making messes unbeknownst to mom. But it was also at this time that a love of creating dishes took off … being in charge of nightly dinners. 

So why do I regale you with these stories? Because it instilled in me that food should also be fun. Food is what brings us together. Food is love. Even though Troy, mom and I live in different states, family get-togethers and holidays still revolve around beautifully plated cuisine of gastronomic perfection. It is always all three in the kitchen.
